Lean meat meaning in Urdu, and lean vs regular

By Nizami Farms · Updated · 2 min read

Quick answer

Lean meat is meat with most of its fat trimmed off. In Urdu, kam charbi wala gosht. At Nizami Farms lean is also weighed after cleaning, so the weight you order is the weight of meat you get.

The words on our labels

WordWhat it means here
Lean کم چربی والا Trimmed of most of its fat, priced on net weight
Regular ریگولر Keeps more fat, priced on gross weight
Net weight خالص وزن The weight after cleaning and trimming: what reaches you
Gross weight کل وزن The weight before trimming
Fat-free qeema بغیر چربی کا قیمہ Veal mince with all its fat trimmed off
Qeema with roghan روغن والا قیمہ Veal mince with 8 to 10% fat
Lean beef کم چربی والا بڑا گوشت Beef (bara gosht) trimmed of most of its fat

Why lean costs more per kilo

Regular is weighed before the fat and trimmings come off, so part of what you pay for is cut away in your kitchen. Lean is weighed after, so all of it is meat. That's why the same cut costs more per kilo as lean: the trimmings are already gone.

Which to pick

Lean for roasts, BBQ and anything where you'd trim the fat anyway. Regular when you want some fat in a slow-cooked salan, or the lower price per kilo.

Lean is about fat, not bone. A lean chop still has its bone; the fat around it is trimmed.
